Barau Urges Trump to Withdraw Threat, Apologise to Nigeria

Deputy Senate President, Senator Jibrin Barau, has called on former United States President Donald Trump to withdraw his recent threat against Nigeria and tender a public apology for describing the country as “disgraced.”
Barau made the call in reaction to Trump’s comments, which included a warning of possible U.S. military action over alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria. He described the remarks as “unacceptable, un-American, and a violation of international law.”
Speaking in a viral video released on Friday, the Deputy Senate President said Nigeria, as a sovereign nation, would not tolerate any form of intimidation or interference from a foreign country.
Barau further criticised Trump’s statement as a breach of diplomatic norms and international law, insisting that the U.S. leader should have followed proper channels if he had genuine concerns about Nigeria.
The lawmaker reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sovereignty and mutual respect, stressing that the country would not be cowed by external threats.
He urged the United States to respect Nigeria’s independence and dignity, warning that such inflammatory remarks could
damage bilateral relations and disrupt global peace efforts.
